4000 MILES later…
There’s over 4000 miles between India and the U.K and we have traveled some distance to be where we are today and with that said it’s time for a celebration of the wonderful cultures that have been interwoven by our native Brits
In a landscape of post-brexit and the era of Trump we are laying on a thin sheet of glass between those who are politically correct and those who politically-say what they f*ck they want- regardless of the offense. With immigrant being a word used to slander, it’s time to put the spotlight on all the amazing women from the first generation of British Asians.
Founded my Meena Bhella, 4000 Miles later is a discovery of British Asian women in the Creative, Beauty, and arts Industry. The Space will be used to champion and show case British Asian females giving them more visibility and a space for their voices to be heard.
It all started when…
Someone once asked me whilst watching a Bollywood film ‘why do all the women look like ‘that’? Meaning, why is their makeup applied like ‘English’ women. Confused, as I never really thought about hair and makeup trends in that way before which led me to research why and to understand, if makeup trends are universal, how do trends form globally? The more I researched the more the subject fascinated me and the more compelled I felt to share it. I had the idea for a while to create something for British Asian culture to be celebrated in a fresh way but also wanted to use my background working in fashion into the mix. Being a woman, I am also aware of the cultural woes that are put upon us, so it was a no-brainer to amalgamate all these ideas into a celebration of South Asian woman hood.
